British Commonwealth: Queen Victoria Imperium trials in U.P.U colors of the Postage and Postage "Die 1" Key Plate, 2¢ green, 2¢ carmine and 2¢ ultramarine perforated and affixed to a large De La Rue, day book piece insert, inscribed "Appendix", A Postage Stamp printed and overprinted in singly fugitive ink in color adopted by the Postal Union for the ½d, 1d and 2½ d duties "and 2 dated " Aug 31st 1888". Each proof is initialed in red along side on the day the book piece, Unique, On exhibition page. extremely fine . Ex De La Rue records, Ex Maisel.
British Commonwealth: 1906 - 07 De La Rue Color Trials, on both sides of an archival page bearing 27 trials all imperforate (some in blocks) from various countries, with Trial designs for the Cayman Islands (block of 6), Egypt (2 blocks of 4), Trinidad (pair), Federated Malay States (4 pars and 3 singles) one marked "Single Fugitive Black". A fugitive color is a pigment that, when exposed to certain environmental conditions such as sunlight, humidity, temperature or even pollution, is less permanent, that is it can change color. Emil Fuchs MVD (1866 - 1929) was an American sculptor, medalist , painter and author. He worked in Vienna, London and New York. He painted portraits of Queen Victoria and King Edward VII and was fashionable among London and American high society in the early 20th Century. A nice selection of his work can be seen at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
