Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong, 1941 (Nov.?) printed-matter envelope from Wuchow to New Bedford, Massachusetts, U.S.A. bearing Dr. Sun Yat-sen 10c. on 25c., showing on reverse printed label reading "After returned from Hong Kong where it was originally sent throug [sic], and kept for a long time owing to hostilities this letter is now forwarded via Chungking." tied by "Canton" (20.11.42) dotted-rim and purple "Tihwa" bilingual (3.2.43) c.d.s., with "Chungking" c.d.s. (14.12) and "U.S. Censorship" circular h.s. on front. Fine and rare usage showing Chinese mail originally routed through Hong Kong and after being detained sent to its original destination though Nationalist-held Chungking and Tiwah, with printed label attesting to the treatment.
Estimate 18,000 - 22,000

There were at least two slightly different labels employed on mails detained in Hong Kong and sent onwards to the U.S. from Canton through Nationalist-held China via Chungking and Tihwa. This one, apparently the scarcer, shows a misspelling of the word "through".
