Japan, 1940 "Non-Held" Tokyo Games. Lot of three covers, two with diagonal two line imprint at bottom left reading "XII Olympiad/Tokyo 1940", one on United States cover & one on Japanese cover, the Japanese cover with imprint excised with print two bar overprint, the last cover is an Official legal size cover of the Japanese Olympic Organizing Committee showing Olympic Rings and "Tokyo Olympic News" imprint at left, cover with "Bureau de Poste Taxe perçue" red postal franking at right and addressed to the United States, Very Fine. Estimate  $200 - 300. The anticipated 1940 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XII Olympiad and originally scheduled to be held from September 21 to October 6, 1940, in Tokyo, Japan, were cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II. Tokyo was stripped of its host status for the Games by the International Olympic Committee after the renunciation by the Japanese of the International Olympic Committee's Cairo Conference of 1938, due to the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The government of Japan had abandoned its support for the 1940 Games in July 1938. $0 (Image)
