1871, dragon 500 mon green, a vertical pair pl. I pos. 4-21 with 100 mon blue, two vertical pairs pl. I pos. 29-37 (37 official pinhole bottom right) and pos. 30-38, cancelled by two clear and complete strikes of "Large Tokyo Kensazumi", on reverse of cover to Kyoto religious affairs bureau. Boxed vermilion "dispatched 20th day" with senders handwritten dateline "year of the goat 9th moon 19th day" (21 November 1871). The 1400 mon basic weight rate for a letter Tokyo-Saikyo of the 1871 first postal tariff, from a known correspondence. Envelope two insect holes, one at left frame of 100 mon-37 (repaired), reduced on top and bottom. Ex-Frank J. Peplow (1872-1935), RDP 1933.

Boxed blue "year of the monkey 5th moon 1st day" / Tokyo post office" and red arrival "year of the monkey 5th moon 4th day / Saikyo post office". The postmarks lunar dates correspond to gregorian calender 6 resp. 9 June, 1872. The 16 sen paid the quadruple weight rate for a letter up to 200 ri distance. Cover opened out for display. Cert.
