1859: OLTREAPPENNINO MODENESE (Modena behind the Appennin = region Massa & Carrara), 20 cents dark blue of Sardinia on a direct letter to Carrara, cancelled with the large double circle stamp "MASSA CARRARA 27 SETT 59" with the double circle "CARRARA 29 SET" on the reverse. The rare letter dates back to the short period of use of Sardinian stamps in the region, which runs from 15 June to 15 October 1859; with certificate of Dr. Avi (2005).
