India-NZ 1869 black-bordered mourning cover ex NZ franked FFQ 1/- p12½, canc heavy (barely legible) rectangular barred obliterator (of Greytown). Endorsed "Via Galle"(Ceylon), addressed neatly to "Mrs Buchanan, Brigadier General Buchanan, Commanding The Troops, Fort Wiliam, Calcutta, East Indies". B/s fine GREYTOWN 1st A-type cds AU 4 69, WELLINGTON cds AU 5 69 & fine red "STEAMER LETTER G.P.O. CALCUTTA" cds SE 15 69. Fort William was notorious as the site of the "Black Hole of Calcutta" during the Indian Mutiny. Fine. Paper mount remnants on back (easily removable). Ex John Woolfe (2006). (Image)
