POSTAL HISTORY: 1879 Second Afghan War usage of East India ½a Envelope to "Colonel Stirling/Royal Horse Artillery/F[rontier] Exped Force/Koorum Column" with largely very fine 'MURREE/DEC 2 - 3 ' duplex & very fine '2 DELY/KOHAT/DEC 3' arrival b/s, small repaired fault at the top. [Both towns are in the Punjab. The objective of the Koorum Column was to cross the Khyber Pass and threaten Kabul]

ADEN: Sheikh Othman quartet 1915 cover to Sussex with 'I.E.F.' Overprint on 2a6p tied by Indian-pattern 'FPO/No 324/5DE15' cds & IEF Censor 7 cachet in red, very fine; 1915 & 1916 stampless Field Service covers to Bombay with fine or poor No 324 backstamps, some aging, censored by different officers; and 1925 cover to Aden with India ½a pair tied by light but obvious 'SHEIKH OTHMAN' cds, opened a bit roughly. [Sheikh Othman was the main water supply for Aden. The Turks captured it on 7.7.1915. It was re-taken by the British two weeks later & Army HQ established there]  (4)
