Hong Kong 1849, entire folded letter from Hong Kong to Bombay/India by Dent & Co, showing very weak red 25 mm double frame Crowned Circle "Paid in Hong Kong" (Webb type 8) as well as black 22 double lined "HONGKONG FE 26 1849" (Webb type 9). M/s "Per Steamer via Galle", which is the maiden voyage of the "Malta", the earliest known cover directly to Bombay without stopping at the Malabar costs ports. From the "day to day" letters written by Dent&Co to their correspondent in Bombay this one was numbered by the sender as D59. As there were no daily ships, these letters where held and so this letter arrived the same day in Bombay as the D68, which is shown in Lee Scamps' book. Condition: Cover (Image)
