Hawaii, 1863, 1¢ black on grayish, "1" with intact top serif, plate 4-A, type IV, position 4, without gum, ample to large margins, faint mark at lower right, otherwise Very Fine, a lovely example of this extremely rare variety. Scott No. 15  $650 for normal. This variety is noted in Westerberg "Plating the Hawaiian Numerals" with only one single and another in a block of 8 being the only recorded examples at that time. Another example was offered in the Advertiser Collection however the variety was not identified.
