Ruggles to Stafford, Ct., oval "Nantucket, Mass., 6 Mo. 6" Quaker date postmark and manuscript "Sh 20¾" rate, letter with interesting content including a narrow escape at Valparaiso, the charge of purchasing of native Hawaiian females by ship captain Daniel Buckle…The charge of female traffic is what wounds them most, that being a capital crime in England. The English consul here says he shall prosecute Capt B. when he arrives, also a notation of November 4th mentions experiencing an earthquake; letter wear and splitting at folds, Fine, a fascinating early Hawaiian letter.
