Luther Halsey Gulick to brother, docketed "Recd' Halsey on board the Ester May, Feb 9th 1852", Rev Gulick arrived in Honolulu May 28 on his way to Ponape (Micronesia), entered the mails with straight line "Ship" and "7" rate handstamps, red "Boston, Mass., Feb 5" cds, 1854 cover sent from Ponape to Oahu, Sandwich Islands, entered the mail with "San Francisco, Cal., Mar 7" cds with matching "Ship" and "8" rate handstamps, docketed "From H & L (Halsey & Louisa Gulick) Feb 1854, previous to the raging of the small pox on Ponape" at left, 1854 with soiling and toning, F.-V.F. overall.
