Large margins to touching at lower left, uncancelled, in combination with United States 1859 12¢ black, plate 3 (corner nicked) on cover to Dubuque Iowa, red "Honolulu, U.S. Postage Paid, Jan. 14" cds, "San Francisco, Cal., Feb. 3, 1862" transit cds and matching cogwheel handstamp cancelling 12¢; some cover edge wear, slightly reduced and small tear at top, otherwise Fine, late use of the U.S. 1859, 12¢ issue which was demonetized in the U.S. but still recognized as prepayment on Hawaiian mail passing through San Francisco as late as 1862, ex Honolulu Advertiser; signed Ashbrook.
