Cat No:1

#1, 1871 1c Ocher, mint sheet of 150 (10x15),a remarkably well preserved pane with full selvage all around showing the oval blue "Controle/T.P." handstamp at top right this being the right pane of the double pane sheet of 300 as printed, amazingly fresh with strong rich color, wonderfully intact and unfolded, full o.g., hinged in the selvage only with all stamps n.h. except the bottom left vertical pair which has hinge reinforced vertical perfs, well centered for this very tightly spaced issue that has barely more space than the size of the perforation holes, very fine and a marvelous choice sheet; a full sheet is the largest recorded multiple of the perforated One Centavo Ocher; this is a new discovery and believed to be the better of two sheets known, the other being without selvage. Cat No:1a

#1a, 1871 1c Ocher, Imperforate, impressive full sheet of 150 (10x15) possessing full selvages all around, blue "Controle/T.P." oval control marking at top right, this being the right pane of the double pane sheet of 300 as printed, wonderfully intact without folds which is unusual for a sheet of this size, without gum as most imperforate multiples are, fresh with strong color, inconsequential selvage tear at top that does not affect any stamps, very fine and choice; it was believed that the last full press sheet of 300 with gutter between the panes was broken into gutter multiples, however an intact sheet of 300 has been discovered (see the next lot); the sheet offered here is the better of only two individual panes of 150 believed to be intact; an excellent exhibition piece. Cat No:1a

#1a, 1871 1c Ocher, Imperforate, full double sheet of 300 as printed, a marvelous intact sheet printed in the deep ocher shade possessing full selvages all around with blue "Controle/T.P." oval control marking at top right on the right pane and at bottom left on the left pane, without gum as most imperforate multiples are, fresh with deep strong color, folded vertically in the gutter between the panes as are all gutter multiples and one horizontal fold neatly between rows 7 and 8 across the sheet, very fine and handsome; it had been believed that the last full press sheet of 300 had been broken up to produce gutter multiples, however the discovery of this intact double pane sheet of 300 now becomes the largest known (as well as possible) multiple of the one centavo value perforated or imperforate, and believed to be the only example yet remaining intact; a must for a World-class collection of Guatemala's First Issue. Lot No:1430

Cat No:1a, 1b

#1a, 1b, 1871 1c Ocher, Imperforate, printed on both sides, an amazing large portion of a double sheet, on one side printed in the deep ocher shade is a gutter block of 180 being the bottom nine rows of each of the two panes with blue "Controle/T.P." handstamp control marking at bottom left, on the reverse of the left block of 90 is printed a block of 90 in the upright position in the ocher shade making a total of 90 stamps printed on both sides and the other block of 90 printed on only one side (two stamps with staple holes), vertical fold in the gutter between panes as always (slight separation of about two rows at top), very fine; this multiple is extraordinary in several ways, the double pane of 180 is larger than full sheet of 150 and therefore the second largest multiple recorded, being only smaller than the full double sheet of 300; this is also believed to be the largest recorded multiple printed on both side; all of this makes for a very valuable multiple with a total catalog value of $6,975.00 for just the printed-on-reverse singles and imperforate pairs, let alone the premium for this impressive multiple. #6, 1873 1P Dull yellow, horiz. pair, right stamp type 98, with "Guatemala/1 Jun 78" central c.d.s. on the right stamp and a portion on the left stamp, strong color, centered to left as most of this issue are poorly centered, trivial perf flaw at top, fine; extremely rare with only seven horizontal pairs recorded by Walter Lind, the eminent student of this issue, and this pair noted as being owned but not illustrated by Goodman, a pair is the largest known used multiple; ex-Goodman. Cat No:13

#13, 1878 4R Violet, two largely complete sheets, the most complete has 99 stamps lacking only the bottom left stamp, there is no selvage at top but includes the four blank cliches (piece out of the top left one) and no selvages at sides, the bottom has most of the imprint across the bottom selvage including the "Arthur Maurry" imprint at right, also the bottom is imperforate between the stamps and the selvage, Goodman thought this unusual and mentioned that there was a block known this way, the other sheet has 93 of the 100 stamps, lacking the right stamp of the 5th row, the first stamp of the 12th row and the first two stamps and the last three stamps of the bottom row, the remaining three stamps of the bottom row are imperforate between the stamps and selvage, the top selvage is present but not the selvages at sides, both have full o.g., a total of ten stamps and two blank labels are hinged, all the rest ar never hinged, due to the size and fragility of the sheets there is a fair amount of separation, centering is fine-very fine; excellent for plating with all the positions that Goodman mentions present in both sheets.
