Griqualand West: Used to London, 1878 6p dull violet "G" overprint, type 11, well centered some perforation tips with gum aging, tied by KIMBERLEY MR 11 1879 2-line circular date stamp on somewhat toned envelope (one tear) bearing CAPE TOWN transit and LONDON 12 AP 79 receiver. very rare Ex Burrus APR 3 1963 1969 (pencilled on reverse). One of the few not purchased in the Burrus Sale by Marie de La Queillerie. A a copy of the Burrus catalogue page included.
Hong Kong Used to Russia: 1879-1880, Queen Victoria, 10¢ on 12¢ pale blue PAIR, tied by "S1" Shanghai in grid cancel on neat envelope, bearing SHANGHAI OC 14 80 c.d.s., on reverse Hong Kong, Bologna and Brindisi transits, and St. Petersburg receiver. (SG 25a; Scott 33 )
An incredibly rare destination. There was no example in the famed Ishikawa Hong Kong collection. Perhaps unique.
