Great Britain, (Anti-Slavery) All Things Whatsoever Ye Would That Men Should Do Unto You, Do You So Unto Them, allover J. Valentine design (state 1) depicting scenes in Stove's Uncle Tom's Cabin with verses in ribbons separating panels, on reverse of cover to Unst, franked with 1841, 1d red brown tied by "233" barred handstamp, reverse with green "Lerwick, Ja 23, 1854" boxed origin date stamp; minor cover edge spots, Very Fine, an attractive example of this rare anti-slavery movement design used in Scotland, ex Salzer. SG No. 8  Estimate $750 - 1,000. Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stove, on behalf of the anti-slavery movement, toured England and Scotland in 1853 and is known to have met with Elihu Burritt during her visit. It is possible that she had also met with Valentine as well. $0 (Image)
