GB-Malaya 1941 WWII commercial air cover to Penang, Malaya, with high franking of 2 x 5/- red GVI & Arms SG 477 canc Bedford machine d/s 17 Oct 1941 (date unclear). Typed endorsement "Per North Atlantic Transpacific Air Services". Penang receipt cds b/s 12 NO 41 (just a month before the Japanese occupation of Penang, 19/12/41). Creasing & edge wear, but a scarce temporary air rate.
1675 folded entire, addressed "For the Worshipful John Morris Esq. at his house in the Old Jewry in London" (letter from John Tomkins). With Bishop mark ("AP" over "2" [?] in bisected circle). Fine wax seal (initials). Distinctive handwriting. Light overall soiling but in good condition for its age (almost 350 years old!) This type of Bishop mark cat £125 by Whitney (1997).
