Dealer’s stock on sales cards. Condition ranges but most is F-VF, with a good number of better singles and sets. Few, if any, high catalog clunkers to skew the catalog value, so the owners catalog of $5100+ is a useful guide, especially considering there is an additional $1800 in higher catalog used not included in the count. Connoisseur’s Delight. Useful assorted German private post material temporarily residing in a medium box. Focus is on the final quarter of the nineteenth century. Consists of over 400 sorted and catalogued mint and used local post stamps from around the German Empire, including some examples of marked forgeries. Acceptable duplication. Also contains around 200 pieces of mainly Berlin postal stationery, almost entirely used, with assorted cancels. Condition is mixed, with most stamps and covers F-VF. Along for the ride is a photocopied copy of the 1953 edition of the Privatpostmarken Katalog by Georg Glasewald, which offers a splendid introduction to the Privatpost field and provides inspiration about how to categorize, describe, and price stamps and stationery issued by the various service providers. The contents could form the basis of a specialized collection. (Image)
