Meters. c.1922 Envelope with five meter essays in black each with a differing town name, values from 10pf to 1m, the five essays in the five designs adopted for the first meter machine of Egypt (used in Cairo in Feb/March 1922, see lot 738). Rare and interesting early meter essays.

Leipzig Trade Fair. 1897 Fair, the well written up collection in an album with Louis Godard balloon card bearing oval "Luftstation des Fesselballons uber Leipzig" cachet postally used, other balloon cards (2), other picture postcards all finely printed in colour, exhibition cancels, labels, postal stationery cards with printed views, booklet of scenes of Leipzig and the exhibition area, promotional notebook, Lipsia local post stamps and covers, etc.

Leipzig Trade Fair - Air Mails. 1921-90 Flown covers from the Leipzig trade fairs including 1928 invitation card to USA flown by Graf Zeppelin, 1936 Zeppelin flights (5, two posted on board), 1939 Zeppelin flights (2), etc., in two albums. (287+).

Leipzig Exhibitions and Fairs. 1897-1990 Postcards, covers, cancels, labels and ephemera, the collection written up in six albums including studies of the 1913 Turnfest, builders trade exhibition and inauguration of the Peoples War Memorial, 1914 Universal Exhibition of Book Publishers, also Leipzig Technical Fairs, amusement fairs, agricultural touring exhibitions, Esperanto congresses, etc., and Leipzig views, cancels and perfins. An interesting collection, mainly pre-1940. (750+).

Upper Silesia. 1920 Stamps and covers, the collection well written up on pages, with additional items loose, including surcharge varieties, 5pf on 15pf violet mint (2), Plebiscite overprint varieties, circular "C.I.H.S" handstamped overprints on 2pf-75pf and National Assembly set of four mint (all expertised as genuine but offered "as-is", also 2½pf used) and forgeries, official stamps overprinted "C.I.H.S" with numerous varieties, covers from many different offices, propaganda labels, Polish "O.S" overprints including use on covers, etc. Also the specialised German Handbook. A fine collection, huge catalogue if all genuine. (100s).

The Norddeutscher Lloyd. 1897-1912 Menus (3), menu postcards (19) and other postcards (6) including 1896-97 coloured menus and postcards given to passengers on ships (2) all pre-dating the first combined menu and postcard, the earliest recorded menu postcard from November 1897 and other early menu postcards from 1897-99; 1907 poster type cards produced for the NDL 50th Anniversary (3); fourteen cards postally used with 1899 card posted at Saipan franked Marianas 10pf with violet oval "YSLAS MARIANAS / (crown) / YSLA DE SAIPAN", 1899 "Speise-Karte" posted on the "Prinz Heinrich" from Hong Kong with Kais Deutsche Marine Schiffspost No. 39 c.d.s, other Seepost cancels (5), etc. A fine lot. 1899-1910 Complete menus with an integral postcard (17) and postcards removed from menus (93), also a menu depicting the North Cape posted from Trondheim, other menus or passenger lists (2) and postcards (4), the menu postcards including pictures of passengers on or alongside ships, youths in maritime scenes, national costume, sailing ships and/or steamers, views of Germany, scenes from Hauffs Phantasia "Baccus the Goddess of wine", etc., one complete menu posted at Tientsin franked China 10pf, 43 other menu postcards postally used including Seepost cancels (10, one franked china overprint 10pf) and Kais Deutsche Marine Schiffspost No. 6 c.d.s on a stampless card from the hospital ship "Gera" at Aden when returning from the Boxer campaign in China. A fine lot, very attractive postcards and menus. (117).
