After the success of the international expeditionary force in suppressing the Boxer Rebellion the East Asian Expeditionary Corps had been disbanded on May 17, 1901 and converted into the East Asian Occupation Brigade, stationed in Beijing, Tientsin, Langfang, Yangtsun, Tangku and Schanghaikwan with attached field hospitals.
