German Post Offices in China: 1901 cover addressed to “Sanitätsunteroffizier/August Gezorke/ostasiatisches/Feldlazareth I/Tientsien/China”, endorsed sent to the field hospital by his wife Anna c/o the German Consulate in Durban, Natal franked 1891 21/2d. tied by P.O.A. 14 cancellation (used at Bulstrode’s Store from Apr. 1901 to Apr. 1902), backstamped Durban Dec. 19, Colombo Jan. 8, Victoria, Hong Kong Jan. 24 and Tientsin Feb. 5 arrival. After the success of the international expeditionary force in suppressing the Boxer Rebellion the East Asian Expeditionary Corps had been disbanded on May 17, 1901 and converted into the East Asian Occupation Brigade, stationed in Beijing, Tientsin, Langfang, Yangtsun, Tangku and Schanghaikwan with attached field hospitals.
