Switzerland B183-6, Semi-Postal FDC, registered from Zumstein and Co. to Cincinnati, Ohio w/Bern dc cds dated "15 VI49", addressed, somewhat roughly opened at btm, front has pencil note 'left notice 7/5/49', and purple hs "PASSED FREE/U.S. CUSTOMS/AT/CLEVELAND, OHIO", reverse has (4) receiving marks NEW YORK, NY dbl oval registered (6-28-1949), Cincinnati, Ohio cds, BURNET WOODS STA. presumably the delivery office. Pencil notes on reverse (cv of stamps), very slight stains on edges and a couple minor creases. Very interesting postal item and probably delivered a catalog. Switzerland Postal Card, Numeral 10 in oval, Railway Post Office (Type 3) postmark, cancel "AMBULANT/J.VIII.90 46/No.8". Message side dated Aug. 5 (1890) at Vernayaz, Switzerland and indicates it was an 8 hour trip by horseback from Chamonix, France (one hour by car now). Letter to a J. Sidney Stowe, Methuen, MA from D.Y.C. who appears to be from Andover. Condition is good, has (2) pressed out creases top to bottom. Interesting vacation story.
