ONE PENNY BLACK USED ON MAY THE 6TH, 1840 FIRST DAY USAGE 1840 Folded entire from London to Thornbury, franked 1d black, plate 1a, lettered RL, good to large margins tied by a faint bur clear strike of an orange-red Maltese cross, showing on flap a faint but legible strike of MY 6 1840 despatch cds which opens well to display; not trusting the glue, the stamp has been additionally fixed with a piece of sealing wax, two filing folds, one through adhesive, barely detract (SG £160’000) An important showpiece Expertise: Signed Raybaudi & Holcombe, cert.
