1936 First non-stop flight New York to London and return (the so-called "Ping Pong flight" by Dick Merrill and Harry Richman in Vultee V1-A Lady Peace, Sept. 1936). On the return leg, an error by Richman who had dumped 500 gallons of fuel, resulted in a near disaster, the plane ran out of gas while approaching Newfoundland, and crash-landed in a bog. Aviators were able to repair the aircraft, arriving in New York a week later, fine and rare round trip cover (Cat No. AAMC TO 1264,1266) (Image)
