1914 (19 May) 5pf stationery card addressed to Windhuk, cancelled by "Karibib/(Deutsch-/Sudwestafrika)" cds, with well struck three-line blue "Erste Flugpost/Swakopmund-Karibib-Windhuk/Deutschsudwestafrika" handstamp alongside, endorsed "Luftpost." A very rare pioneer flight card in excellent condition, v.f. It was carried on the third stage of the first Swakopmund-Windhoek flight by the German pilot Buchner, who inaugurated air service from Swakopmund to Windhoek, 18-23 May, 1914, with stops at Usakos, Karibib and Okalandja. Due to bad weather, Buchner was delayed in Karibib until 22 May. The awaiting mail in Karibib had already been cancelled on the 19th and had a three-line airmail cachet applied in blue in anticipation of an uninterrupted continuation of the flight (Image)
