1949 Black and Blue Lafayette Perforated Trial Essay, five strips of 10 Type I stamps (with "Lafayette"), including two with sheet margins at top, with traces of original gum, very fine. This stamp essay that was manufactured by printers Lambert-Marioni as an example of their work, presented to the French Government for their approval. The vignette was engraved by Jules Piel, based on an original engraving by Duplessis. The letters "STIF" at bottom stand for Services Techniques des Impressions Fiduciaires. Listed in Yvert & Tellier as # LAL2 at €130 per stamp, for a total of €6,500 (equivalent to C$9,324 at time of writing). (Image)

Group of 8 France Dealer Offerings, in 8 envelopes, each retail priced at a total of C$538 (what the owner paid). One envelope contains an accumulation of 60 mostly unused postal stationery from the 1980s, another has 9 different booklets, another has #s 733-36 in sheets of 50, another 9 diff. booklets, another 10 diff. booklets, another has 30 NH stamps from the 1950s-60s, another has Yvert # 836-838 in sheets of 100, and the last envelope contains 36 NH stamps from the 1950s-1960s. Mint and Used France Collection in an Yvert Stockbook, holding 31 pages full of a mix of mint and used issues, from the Céres and Napoléon issues (3 pages) to about the 1960s, with mostly complete sets, saw a few souvenir sheets including a 1937 PEXIP, 1927 Strasbourg (heavily toned) and back of the book including Dues, Precancels, Airmails, Parcel stamps and more. Owner counted the Maury 2022 value at €11,400 (equal to C$16,619 as of writing). Overall fine to very fine, online pictures only show a small portion. (Image)

We estimate this collection to be over 90% complete by catalogue illustration, with a great deal of extra material tucked in throughout and at the back of the collection. We note #s 24 (used c.v. $110) and 96 (used c.v. $70), along with many better sets, such as most of the Famous Men series, complete. For many issues, stamps are hinged one on top of the other, up to four or more deep, which often includes mint as well as used examples. Overall fine to very fine. (Image)

Large Collection of Mint and Used France, 1849-2011, with roughly 3,000 stamps, organized by Scott number, in two 64 page Lighthouse stockbooks. The collection begins with roughly 1,400 mint stamps, ranging from Scott #29/3029a, along with selections of semi-postals, airmails, postage dues and officials. A quick check indicated several better stamps including Scott #s 52 (m.h., c.v. $250), 77 (m.h., $115), 89 (m.h., $200), 95 (m.h., $90), 102 (m.h., $215), B43 (m.h., $125), C27 (m.h., $130), along with stamps, sets, and partial sets cataloguing $20 to $70 and up. The collection concludes with roughly 1,600 used stamps, ranging from Scott #1/4275, along with selections of semi-postals, airmails, postage dues and officials. A spot check indicated roughly 110 pre-1900 stamps, along with B5-B6, B11, B19, with stamps, sets, and partial sets cataloguing from $20 to $50 and up. Owner's 2014 Scott catalogue value totals $24,290. Online photos show a sampling of this large collection. We note a few small faults with some of the early issues, noting mint no gum, hinge remnants and a few thinned stamps. Overall fine to very fine. (Image)

Collection of Mint France in a Davo Album, 1900-1977, with roughly 1,000 stamps, including sets and partial sets up to 1924, with roughly 99% completeness (for general issues), from 1924 to 1974, along with selections of back of the book material. A few of the better stamps include Scott #s (mint hinged unless noted) 123 (c.v. $100), 127-129 (n.h.), 156-184 ($109 total), 185-196 ($78 total), 264-283 ($132 total), B11 ($125), B38 ($125), C8-C13 ($151 total), C23-27 ($212 total), with stamps, sets, and partial sets cataloguing $20 to $50 and up, including 185-186 ($78 total), and 329 mint hinged 1937 International Philatelic Exhibition souvenir sheet of four. Online photos show a sampling. We estimate the collection is 85% mint hinged (majority being lightly hinged, with a few hinge remnants).
