France 1850, Ceres 10c. bistre, single stamp and horizontal pair, fresh colour but cut into, clearly postmarked by PC "3337", 30c. rate on "rayon limitrophe" letter from "THANN 19 MARS 1853" (Alsace) to Schönau/Wiesental/Grand Duchy of Bade via Basel with transit mark "SUISSE ST.LOUIS 19 MARS 53" on reverse. France 1849, Ceres 20c. black, fresh colour, cut into/slight imperfections, single franking on "rayon limitrophe" letter paying only domestic rate from "GIROMAGNY 8 AVRIL 49" to Basel with boxed "DEP.LIMIT." and ms. "Troiver a la Boite" (found in letter box) alongside, on reverse transit mark "BELFORT 9 AVRIL 49" and same-day arrival marks (French and Swiss P.O.). The rate to Basel was 30c., mail had to be posted either fully paid or unpaid, partly franked mail wasn't accepted, the 20c. adhesive therefore was void, and the letter consequently charged upon arrival with "4" (rappen) in ms. France 1852 Ceres 1fr., two singles of different colour shades, used along with Ceres 40c. on (double weight?) cover from Paris to Rome, Papal States by Italian ship, all tied by grid roller cancel in black, "PARIS 16 MARS 52" despatch c.d.s., red boxed "PD", red transit dater and red "VIA DI MARE" alongside, and with arrival backstamp. The two singles 1fr. with cut frame lines at the left, the 'corner' stamp with a corner defect at top right and faded colour, good to fine else, the 40c. very fine. An unusual franking. Minor imperfections as missing corner perf one stamp and vert. folds through cover and one stamp, but A VERY RARE COVER FROM THE "COMMUNE DE PARIS", where the letter was dated '9 May', carried to Versailles by a messanger through the siege ring, posted there and carried via Marseilles and ship mail to Constantinople.
