1855 (Apr. 5) Liverpool, England to Philadelphia Pa. Folded letter with manuscript "pr Nashville" endorsement, green "Liverpool, AP 5, 1855" double-arc and Liverpool (4.6) backstamp with matching "3/Cents" debit rating, carried by Collins Line Nashville from Liverpool Ar. 7th to New York arriving Apr. 22nd, "Philadelphia Am. Pkt. '24' Apr 22" due exchange cds; tone spot, F.-V.F., Carried on the only return voyage of the "Nashville" for the Collins Line.
Estimate; $200 - 300.

The "Nashville" was chartered by the Collins line to make only one round voyage in place of the "Pacific", which was unable to make the voyage.

Blue folded letter with red London Paid (4.5) cds with red manuscript "4/-" prepaid rating for quadruple rate, Liverpool (4.6) transit and red "84/Cents" credit rating to U.S., carried by Collins Line Nashville from Liverpool Apr. 7th to New York arriving Apr. 22nd, red "Boston Paid Am. Pkt. Apr 23" exchange cds, F.-V.F., This is the only westbound voyage of the "Nashville" for the Collins Line, which was chartered for one round voyage to replace the Pacific., ex-Winter.
Estimate; $150 - 200.

Liverpool used a 4x21¢ = 84¢ handstamp to indicate credit to the United States. Very few examples of this marking have been recorded.

Pkt. '24' Jul 17" exchange due cds; second with Jun. 20th 1857 cds and matching double-weight "38 / Cents" debit rating to Boston Mass., carried as endorsed by Cunard Line Niagara from Liverpool Jun. 29th to Boston arriving Jul. 1st, Boston Br. Pkt. Jul. 1st arrival backstamp and matching "48" cent due rating, a Very Fine pair at the single and double rates showing the Liverpool Too Late cds.

In 1856, Liverpool head post office introduced a form of "Too Late" datestamp for mail intended to travel overseas by ship, this cancel indicated the mail was received after 8:30 pm, but both of the items here was carried by the intended ship of the same date.
