Cover with datelined letter from the sister of the Surgeon Clymer on the U.S. Frigate St. Lawrence, manuscript "29 Paid" (5¢ overpayment) sent via British open mail care of the U.S. Consul in Marseilles, carried on Cunard Line Cambria departing Boston Jan. 9th to Liverpool arriving Jan. 22nd, red London (1.22) backstamp and matching "Colonies &c. Art 13" framed accountancy handstamp, sent by rail from Calais to Marseilles, where the French manuscript "30" decimes due, the American Consul forwarded the letter to the U.S. Consul in Naples, Very Fine and early letter to Italy by British Open Mail.
