THE ONLY RECORDED COVER BEARING THE SOUTH HANSON "LOCOMOTIVE" FANCY CANCEL, ONE OF THE PREMIER CANCELLATIONS OF THE 19TH CENTURY.

This entire was one of the highlights of the great Arthur Beane collection of fancy cancellations, which he had purchased as a Christmas present in 1969. It was one of his favorite items and exhibited in a place of prominence on the title page of his one-frame exhibit of Massachusetts fancy cancellations. Arthur first showed the exhibit at the Philatelic Show in Boxborough Mass., except Arthur showed up without the title page. He spent the whole show wondering what happened to the page and if he had lost it. He returned home and luckily found the page in a manila envelope that had been tossed in the trash!

The other complete strike on piece was offered in the Dr. David H. Lobdell collection, realizing $25,300 in 2010. The only other examples known are partial strikes off-cover 1¢ and 2¢ stamps.
