Carpenter, his former schoolmaster in Leicester, at printed matter rate. Sir George Edward Raven Deacon (1906-1984) had been offered a position as a chemist on the Discovery Antarctic survey and sailed to the Antarctic aboard the R.R.S. “William Scoresby” in 1928, later becoming the Director of the National Institute of Oceanography. With no advance publicity about the four new overprinted issues, all early philatelic mail could only be from Tabarin Expeditionary members.
