Falkland Islands, 1831 (Nov. 18) whaling letter from New London, Conn. Addressed to to "Captain Lyman Allyn, Ship Jno (John) & Edward", a long and detailed letter first discussing the capture of sealmen by the pirate Disnet and the Transport "Capt. Bray" has sailed from Bristol on the 29th of Oct. (1831) and is suspected to have arms for Disnet, mentions petition from many whaling ventures to the US government with the hopes that naval ships in Brazil will be dispatched to protect American interests, followed by a long detailed list of places where whales are being found from the Red Sea to the Antarctic, with an instruction written on outer flap that reads "Should the Capt. of Ship Franklin fall in with ships Julius Caesar, Flora or Comm. Perry before he see the Jno. T. Edwards, he is requested to deliver this to their captains who has the permission of the writers to open the same", in remarkable condition for a letter on such a long journey, Very Fine. Estimate  $4,000 - 6,000. This is thought to be the earliest cover to the Falkland Islands and a historic item of the utmost importance. $0 (Image)
