Cat No:216a
1964 Battle of the Falklands 6d black and light blue showing the famous H.M.S. Glasgow instead of H.M.S. Kent error, fresh and lightly mounted mint; one of the great rarities of the Elizabethan era, only seventeen examples recorded; cert. BPA (1985) (S.G. £40'000).
Note: In December 1964 the Falkland Islands issued a set of four stamps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the naval battle in the South Atlantic. Over four years later a Canadian collector reported finding a 6d stamp with the wrong ship; 'H.M.S. Glasgow' instead of 'H.M.S. Kent'. It has since been determined that one sheet of sixty was printed in error and sent to the USA. (Image)
