Falkland Islands: 1928 cover to Carl Skottsberg, botanist of the Swedish South Polar Expedition, in Gothenburg, Sweden, with enclosed four page letter headed "West Point Oct 20th" written and signed by Arthur Felton, owner of the island, with references to South Georgia, C.A. Larsen and Otto Nordenskjöld, also two page issue of “The Penguin" of 1928 (Apr. 4) and a printed proposal to form a local whaling company, the adhesive sadly excised but a most interesting letter. Carl Johan Fredrik Skottsberg (1880-1963) served as official botanist to the Expedition and on his return to Sweden published in 1905 the first comprehensive phytogeographic study of the flora of southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. He later led the Swedish Magellanic expedition of 1907-09.
