1869-76 circular ‘PAID’ red frank, a full impression on neat cover addressed to a Miss Sullivan, Bournemouth, d/r despatch black cds at left “FE 14/1878” and manuscript “Paid 1s”, on reverse, Bournemouth arrival April 2nd 1878. Illustrated in Falkland islands, The Black and Red Postal Franks (1869-1878) by Robert Barnes ref. 5/78. Stated to have RPS certificate (1962) but not present.  A fine and rare cover. SG 2 (Image)

POSTAL HISTORY: QV to KGV selection comprising Internal mail 1915-27 with inter-island covers (4), all commercial and from Port Stanley, KGV 1ds on envelopes to Howard Clement at Roy Cove and to him in from Estate Louis Williams, 1915 to J. Paice at Hill Cove, stampless 1927 OHMS envelope to The Manager, Roy Cove and another 1927 (28 Apr) OHMS envelope to Clovis McGill used on the first with 2½d dark blue, 28 AP 27 (first day of use) and Postal Stationery range of 25 items, a few commercially used including Heijtz E1 (very slight peripheral staining) and E3, also P1 ex Bunt but stained; P3sp (2) and E1sp, staining, the remainder mostly unused (including R1 x 2). POSTMARKS: 1910 (Feb. 17) small white paper piece showing a good strike of large 'SOUTH GEORGIA' imprint in black in conjunction with type F.4D cds carried on the S.S. Coronda (SG ZU1); HMCS Afterglow two full strikes on piece (one stained) and part on a single 1d; Deception Island violet oval on piece, 10 MAY 27 (latest date), small foxed area; range of New Island (12) including several very good strikes, one with day date slug inverted; South Shetlands in violet (SG Z129a) on piece dated 1 MR, the first day of violet ink use.
