Incoming folded letter from whaling ship captain Thomas Wall sailing around Cape Horn, sent to his pregnant wife in New Bedford, Mass., with "Stonington, Conn., Mar 15" cds and matching straight line "Ship" handstamp, manuscript "14½" rate for 12½¢ rate plus "2¢" ship fee for the ship captain of the Newark, with contents including…We are now fairly around that much dreaded Cape Horn - Longitude 80 degrees west, Latitude 54 degrees south, Very Fine and scarce.

Incoming folded letter datelined "March the 10: 1848, At Sea off Cape Horn, Lat 57o 40' S, Long 70o 30' W", from whaling ship captain Thomas Wall of the whaler Heroine sent to his wife in New Bedford, Mass. with "pr Ship Nile, Greenport" endorsement, with red "Greenport, N.Y., Jun 6" cds and matching "Ship" handstamp and manuscript "7" rating, letter with content including…I have been looking around the Falkland Isles for "right" whales but saw none…spoke to the "Bumbler" of Nantucket four days ago. I am in hopes of getting something soon; some light staining, F.-V.F.
