1881 (Nov 15) registered envelope from New York to Alexandria, franked 5c and 15c 1870-88 American Bank Note definitives tied by New York date stamps and with Liverpool and London registration marks and British P.O. date stamp of Beirut. The envelope was apparently damaged in transit and has a pen notation in French on its reverse, “Arrived in this state/8 Dec, 1881” with several signatures. Both sides of the envelope were resealed with Type VII Alexandria interpostal seals, one of which is tied on reverse by an Alexandria date stamp, scarce genuine usage of interpostals to repair cover damage (Image)
