1908, R-Postsache aus "PONAPE KAROLINEN 3.1." mit handschriftlichem Vermerk "Rückschein" und rückseitiger Verschlussmarke "Kasierl. Deutsches Postagentur Ponape Karolinen" an das Postamt in Solingen mit Ankunftsstempel und Nachsendung an den Empfänger des Rückscheins, etwas fleckig und kleine Fehlstelle links oben hinterlegt, aus den Karolinen sehr selten!

1914, registered cover from "BARNARDS GREEN 28 NO 14" (Malvern) addressed to "G.P.O./Caroline Islands/Now in British Occupation" and endorsed "via Australia", censor label at top and 2line "UNDELIVERABLE / L.P.S." alongside, returned to Malvern (roughly opened on reverse). Japan, being an ally in WWI, at the request of the UK opened hostilities with Germany on 23 Aug 1914. Japan wanted to extend its influence from Northern China down to the River Yangtze. Japan occupied Palau, the Caroline Islands and the Marshall Islands being colonies of Germany. The British PO Notice suspending the service to German colonies was issued on 18 Aug 1914. Mail links to Apia, Samoa and the Cameroons were re-established on 24 Nov 1914 but not to the Caroline Islands. The Caroline Islands were not in British occupation and why there is an endorsement "via Australia" is not known. (Image)
