1807 (May 1): Entire letter with printed market report, internally dated "Riga, den 1te May 1807", forwarded by private ship to Copenhagen and delivered by the loacl Footpost. Ledger no. '12' noted at top right, the entitre marked as unpaid by a clear and distinct strike of negative "FP" within ring handstamp, type I in red colour. A very fresh and fine item, cert. Møller (2002).rnrnNote: From May 1806 Footpost letters might be sent unpaid by the sender, these letters got the FP postmark in red while paid letters were struck in black. Only five similar letters with red type I postmarks are believed to exist, there was none in the most extensive Copenhagen Footpost collection ever built by Niels Schou, offered in auction in 2020. Noted ”K.T.” (Royal Service) and with a distinct strike of negative FP handstamp type III without ring. Ledger no. from the post office '12' noted at top right. A very fresh and fine item, cert. Møller (2002).rnNote: The item is undated but an early usage after the replacement of type I by type III in 1809 is likely as other items from the same correspondence with type I handstamp are known. 1857: 8 sk. green, a vertical pair with clear to large margins all round, in combination with 1864/70 3 sk. lilac and 4 sk. red (Facit 5+12+13c) on 1866 cover to Paris all tied by circular "1" handstamps of Copenhagen and by part "Prusse / Forbach" transit (Sept 237) in red. Framed 'P.P.' in red below with further Forbach entry marking and Prussian credit marking '4½' in blue crayon. Reverse with Lübeck transit and Paris arrival cds. One or two minor imperfections with 3 sk. with blunted perf. at base but a very rare combination and rate with, it is believed, just two examples known. Cert. Nielsen (2004). 1851/2011: Collection Denmark 1851-2011 in 3 Lindner-hingeless-albums, the material up to about 1950 is often used or unused mounted, several better stamps and sets included, from 1950 to 2011 unmounted og. 1 album with Greenland 1915-94 and Faroer Islands 1975-97 - Greenland contains 6 mounted parcel stamp 'Ice Bear', the New York issue from 1945 used and the set 'DANMARK BEFRIET' unmounted og. Everything later also unmounted. There is a 5th and last volume with Iceland 1949-94, some good stamps are included, everything unmounted. 1854: 4 sk. brown, 6th printing in a four-colour combination with 1855 2 sk. blue, 1857 16 sk. greyish-violet with dotted background, and pair 1858 8 sk. green with wavy lined background, five fine and fresh examples with overall good to large margins, the 4 sk. adhesive shaved at top, on entire letter to Lloret de Mar, Catalonia. The adhesives cancelled by five strikes of duplex "34 : KIOBENH.JERNSB:PST:CONT. 7 / 11 1859" datestamp, "P.P." in black, French "TOUR-T. VALENCIENNES 10 NOV. 59" entry cds in red and Spanish "4 Rs" taxation handstamp in black alongside as well as 'f 6½' (silbergroschen weiterfranko) in red crayon. On reverse transit cds's of the Danish and Thurn & Taxis P.O.'s in Hamburg, Spanish "ESPANA LA JUNQUERA" entry and GERONA transit cds's. The 38 skilling franking covers the 37 skilling rate in force to the French border between 1856 and March 1860, a beautiful item full of postal history interest, only two letters are recorded in this rare rate. 1864: Crown Insignia, 16 sk. red-lilac, horizontal pair and single, used on cover, from COPENHAGEN to BARCELONA, tied by black '1' in circles, sent 24 March 1864, with Copenhagen datestamp in black, P.P. in red, French transit in blue (24 March 1864), '8.Rs.' charge mark in blue applied on arrival in Spain, to reverse an arrival in Barcelona (26 March 1864), vertical filing crease centrally well clear of stamps, a very rare double rate letter franked at a 48 sk. rate sent to Spain, four covers known to Spain (Facit 2002), the only recorded example with this franking, unique. 1870: Numerals, 2 sk. grey and blue, 3 sk. grey and green, 4 sk. grey and carmine, and 8 sk. grey and brown, used on cover, from COPENHAGEN (Denmark) to JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (Spain), tied by '1' in circles, also a single strike of the Copenhagen datestamp (23 Aug 1873), with red 'P.D.' mark, handwritten '4' in red crossed through with blue line, sent via Prussia with 'KIEL/26 8 I/HAMBURG' in black on reverse, alongside a Jerez/Cadiz arrival (30 Aug), horizontal filing crease centrally not affecting stamps, 2 sk. and 3 sk. have minor perf fault otherwise a very fine and attractive cover, an extremely rare four colour franking, one of two known.
