[220km NE of Weipa] The Paterson Telegraph Station was originally situated at the mouth of Paterson Creek at the end of the Cape York Telegraph Line, near the landing point of the undersea telegraph cable to Thursday Island. In 1894 the station was relocated to Punsand Bay on the West Coast of Cape York, approximately 3km from the northern-most point of the Australian Continent. At that time, the facility was renamed the Cape York Telegraph Station.
