Confederacy, Strawberry Plains, Tenn./Feb. 20. Unusual type cds on cover to Middleburg, East Florida with matching "Due 10" handstamp, manuscript soldier's endorsement at top of cover, "Private W. Ashurst, Marion Light Artillery, Captain John M. Martin, Fla. Brigade", couple discoloration spots, F.-V.F. Estimate  $150 - 200. Marion Light Artillery was organized on Amelia Island, Florida, in June, 1861. Later it moved to Kentucky in March 1862 and was involved in the Battle of Richmond, Ky. and also took part in the fight at Perryville. The company served in S. C. Williams', M. Smith's, and L. Hoxton's Battalion of Artillery, and participated in the campaigns of the Army of Tennessee from Chickamauga to Nashville. It then was involved in the defense of Mobile and was included in the surrender of the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana at Citronelle, AL.
