Blue double-circle datestamp (Dietz II) on cover with wonderful all over shaded advertising design of the "Adams Express Company" in light brown showing the Express office in Augusta, Geo with Street Scene, Adams crossed out with manuscript "So(uthern) Express" applied and sent to the Richmond Express office, Extremely Fine and choice. Estimate  $1,500 - 2,000. Adams Express and the other express companies of the South were ordered to stop mail service "across-the-lines" on August 26, 1861. The Southern offices of Adams Express were taken over by the Southern Express Co. and the "new" company continued to transmit internal letters throughout the South. $0 (Image)
