Freeman at Savannah Geo., endorsed "Courtesy of Mr. C.D. Rogers" at lower left, carried privately outside the mails; partial flap, Very Fine, The only Savannah Provisional envelope we have seen using a U.S. 3¢ Nesbitt entire. Scott No. 101XU3  $750. The Savannah Post Office would apply the provisional handstamps not only on plain envelopes, but customers could also have their homemade envelopes or in this case demonetized U.S. entires. $0 (Image)

Confederacy, Savannah, Ga., 1861, 10¢ black, legal size orange buff cover with Savannah Ga. postmaster provisional handstamp and control marking that were crossed out in manuscript, bearing 5¢ green, Stone 1-2 (1), two singles, full margins to just in, tied by light strike of "Tudor Hall Va. Feb 7 1862" cds to Hon. Alexander Stephens at Richmond Va.; missing top flap as is usual for this correspondence and with docketing on back, some edge tears and overall wear, vertical file fold away from stamps, Fine and extremely rare use showing the previously prepared provisional superseded by regular postage.
