Confederacy, Montgomery, Ala., 1861, 10¢ Black, provisional circular handstamp and indistinct "Montgomery Ala. Jan 10"on light brown homemade cover to Dr. R.H. Duggar at Talladega Ala., "Ch. Box No. 200" notation at top left, Very Fine. Scott No. 59XU9 $3,250. ONE OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE MONTGOMERY 10¢ BLACK TYPE 3 PROVISIONAL ENTIRE. Even though cover has a charge box notation, the ink in the provisional circular handstamp is distinctly different than the Montgomery cds, which was applied later at the time of sending. The addressee, Dr. Reuben Henry Duggar (1837-1921) of Marengo Co. Ala. served in the Alabama Hospital Service during the War.
