Confederacy, Macon, Ga., 1861, 5¢ black on yellow. Huge margins, uncancelled on stunning cover with "Macon Ga./Jun. 5" (1861) double circle postmark and matching "Paid 5" handstamp on lemon cover with lovely "Lanier House" green embossed cameo oval corner card, "W. Eaves" imprint, flap missing, Extremely Fine, pictured in Dietz; with 1992 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 53X4 $6,000 for normal cover. This cover and the June 1st cover both show the adhesive uncancelled and with the "Paid 5" handstamps. This is perhaps a result of the uncertainty as how the new adhesives should be treated when mailed. A later example is known from this correspondence tied on cover with the same corner card.A colorful and remarkably choice example of the plain ruled Macon provisional stamp used on a hotel corner card cover. Only four are known on advertising covers. . $0 (Image)
