Confederacy, Immortal "Confederate 600" - Morris Island. Cover with endorsement by "S.W. Branch, 1st Lt., Co. B, 8th Ga." as a prisoner held at Morris Island, addressed to his wife in Savannah, Ga., postmarked with "Charleston, S.C./Nov. 1" (1864) double circle postmark and bold due "10" handstamp, endorsed "pr flag of truce, via Charleston", unsealed for censoring, docketed at the left "Oct. 9" with photocopy of original enclosure datelined "Morris Island, Oct. 9, 1864", Extremely Fine. Estimate $2,000 - 3,000. The "600" was a group of 600 prisoners, all Confederate officers, moved to from Fort Delaware to be sent to Morris Island in Charleston harbor in August 1864 and held in open barracks exposed to mortar fire from Confederate batteries. . $0 (Image)
