Confederacy, From Office Enrollment Slaves/Savannah, manuscript endorsement on legal size cover to General Howell Cobb, Macon, Geo. endorsed "Politeness Capt. Goodwin" and "$936.30" in top left corner indicating this was a money letter at Macon, some sealed tears, Fine appearance. Estimate  $75 - 100. Due to a greatly diminished army, the Confederate Congress in March of 1864, impressed all slaves and all male free negroes and other free persons of color to service in various non-combatant capacities in the Confederate Army. Such persons received rations, clothing and compensation at the rate of eleven dollars a month. $0 (Image)
