Confederacy, Fort Monroe, Va. - Casemate - Jefferson Davis Prisoner of War. Cover addressed by Davis to his wife in Augusta, Ga., endorsed "To Hon. J Speed, U.S. Atty. Genl., Washington D.C." at lower left, pencil docket at top, sealed cover tear at left, otherwise Very Fine, a very rare Jefferson Davis prisoner of war cover, with only three known covers. Estimate  $750 - 1,000. Jefferson Davis was confined at the casemates for several months following the end of the war from about September 1865. He was held in a 15 by 16 foot room on the second floor of Carol Hall, the officer's quarters at the fort. $0 (Image)
