Confederacy, Danville, Va., 1861, 5¢ black on yellow entire. used with 1861 5¢ green, Stone 2 affixed over typographed legend "Southern/Confederacy/Danville, Va./Paid/W. B. Payne, P.M./5" ("Southern" curved) and tied by blue "Danville Va. Jan. 30" (1862) cds on cover to Flat River P.O. N.C., sender's routing "Via Greensboro, Hillsboro", the entire is fresh and immaculate, Extremely Fine. Scott No. 21XU1  Estimate $3,000 - 4,000. There are approximately 20 known examples of the Danville provisional (19 listed in Crown book). This cover from the Manguin correspondence is a late use (Jan. 1862) of the provisional entire with the 5¢ General Issue added to prepay the 5¢ rate from Danville to Flat River - the distance between offices being well under 100 miles.A remarkably beautiful example of the rare Danville Typographed Provisional. . $0 (Image)
