Confederacy, Charleston S.C./Jan. 9 (1862). Large single rim cds with soldiers (Due) "5" handstamp on blue folded cover addressed to Mrs. Ann B. Royall, New Market, Abbeville Dist, S.C., cover with military endorsement at top left "Sergt Royall Santee Artillery.", small ink spots & wrinkle, otherwise Very Fine, The "Santee Artillery" was originally Co. B 6th SC Inf Battalion and served as an infantry unit until transferred to the artillery in early 1863. The unit basically spent the war in the Charleston area assigned to the defenses of the city.
