Both men named in address were in Company B. The woodcut illustration is most likely a prewar publication as it is bylined from a Philadelphia publication. John A. Wharton (1828-1865) was a prominent and wealthy Texas lawyer and plantation owner who was married to the daughter of a former Governor of South Carolina.During the war, he served as a CSA General Officer in the West and was considered to be one of the best CSA tactical cavalry generals.
