Confederacy, Baton Rouge, La., 1861, 5¢ Green & Carmine, "McCcrmick" Error, Calhoun Position 7, large margins to just in with sheet margin at bottom, tied by neat strike of "Baton Rouge Oct 15, 1861" cds that leaves the error clearly visible, on cover to Miss Kittie Mort, care of Dr. Blackburn, Vernon Miss.; missing top flap, light horizontal file fold affects stamp which has tiny part of design drawn in at upper left, Very Fine appearance, ex-Duveen. Scott No. 11X2a  $10,000. ONE OF ONLY 7 RECORDED COVERS BEARING THE 5¢ "MCCCRMICK" ERROR. Our records contain seven on-cover examples of the 5¢ "McCcrmick" error (11X2a):1) Aug. 29, 1861, to Capt. Farrot, Delta Rifles - 4th Regt. La. Volunteers in Berwick City, La.; sealed tear at right, reduced at left, F.-V.F. appearance, ex-Seybold, Caspary; with 2008 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 11X3  $10,000. AN EXTREMELY RARE USE OF THE 5¢ BATON ROUGE PROVISIONAL WITH CRISS-CROSS BORDER. Crown recorded only eleven covers with this Baton Rouge provisional stamp, all being single frankings.The recipient's military unit was on guard duty at Atchafalaya River and Bayou Teche from October 1861 thru February 1862. $0 (Image)
